INCREASE TO THE 2026 MINIMUM WAGE. 40-HOUR WORKWEEK.
Today, the President of Mexico announced a 13% increase to the general minimum wage for 2026, from $278.80 to $315.04 per day, which represents a minimum monthly income of $9,582.47 in the general geographic area.

For the border zone, the minimum wage will be increased by 5%, from $419.88 to $440.87 per day, i.e., a minimum monthly income of $13,409.80.

Additionally, the Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare, Marath Bolaños, announced the gradual and progressive implementation of the 40-hour workweek. He stated that, no later than January 2030, the workweek will be reduced to 40 hours, in accordance with the following schedule:

  • 2026: Normative transition year. The reform will enter into force, but the workweek will not yet be reduced (pending approval by Congress).

  • 2027: The maximum legal workweek will be reduced to 46 hours.

  • From 2028 to 2030: The workweek will be reduced by 2 hours per year, until reaching 40 hours in 2030.
